Te Kereru is a unique and spectacular house designed by an architect as their own, nestled in native forest above magnificent Onetangi Beach on Waiheke Island.
With a light and airy open-plan split level layout and unusual angles, it has a wonderfully, sunny living area, which opens onto a balcony with expansive views across the treetops to the sea. A wood burning stove as well as a heatpump, mean this is a warm and comfortable house all year round. Up a few stairs is a spacious dining area, and a large well-equipped kitchen, with a magnificent natural wooden-topped workbench/island. This opens onto a further balcony, perched high up in the trees, with amazing views out to sea, with an outside table, chairs, sun umbrella and a gas BBQ.
Completely surrounded by forest, there are multiple decks on which to sit, relax, watch the sun set, enjoy the privacy and seclusion, and listen to the native birdsong - tui, kaka (NZ native parrot) and kereru (NZ native pigeon) are abundant. The house is on a large section planted in native bush, with a lovely walk down to the valley.
Downstairs there are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a luxurious ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower and opens onto another large, completely private deck above the trees. It has a top-of-the range super-king bed, which is separable into two singles. There are two further bedrooms, one with a queen size bed, and one with a single, the latter also with a private deck. A spacious newly renovated family bathroom is on the entrance level, where there is also a laundry & an outdoor shower.
Te Kereru is located above Onetangi Bay, a short stroll down to the lovely beach and cafes. It is close to various wineries, and five minutes’ drive to the supermarket, shops and the weekend market at Ostend. Oneroa and the ferry is a further few minutes from there.
Please note that due to the design and number of stairs, this house is not suitable for toddlers. The property is not to be used for any parties or gatherings.
Each stay incurs a $200 charge for quality linen, towels and exit clean so you have nothing to do but relax, refresh and enjoy.
